Squad levels

DOLPHIN SQUAD
This is our beginner Squad; the swim sessions are 1 hour in duration and are intended as the transition from Learn to Swim to actual Squad Training. At this level, Dolphins focus on developing good technique through all of the 4 strokes including holding body line and head position, while also introducing small amounts of endurance based swimming.
The introduction of turns and diving will also be introduced in small increments.
*Equipment required – Kick board, Flippers, Pull Buoy.
TRANSITION TO MAKO LEVEL IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE COACHES
Swimmers must show a willingness to learn by developing good listening skills and be able to perform required the tasks without distraction as well as ongoing improvement.

MAKO SQUAD
This level is designed to prepare the swimmer for our Bronze level Squad. The training sessions are 1 hour in duration and still focus on all the elements of the previous Squad, with further focus on all 4 strokes, turns and diving. Makos will focus to a more disciplined approach to their swimming and learn how to work together as well as using the pace clock and other tools required to advance to the next level. The goal is to build on and improve their previous training both technically and physically so that the transition to Bronze squad will be as smooth as possible.
*Equipment required – Kick board, Flippers, Pull Buoy.
TRANSITION TO BRONZE SQUAD IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE COACHES – Swimmers must show commitment and a willingness to improve whilst learning to manage the increased volume of training. They must also show interest in competition swimming in our local Gippsland swimming fixtures.

BRONZE SQUAD
The Bronze squad is the entry pathway into our performance-focused squads. The swim sessions are 1.5 hours in duration, and continues to build on the fundamental swimming skills as well as developing the ability to learn how to maximise training through developing a growth mindset as well as a love for Swimming! All swimmers in the Bronze Squad will be introduced to a variety of racing techniques and opportunities as they continue to master all four competitive strokes and gain greater confidence and proficiency. Bronze swimmers will also go through more advanced drills and training techniques along with an increase in endurance based swimming, with a greater emphasis on turns, starts and finishes to further enhance their racing capabilities!
Recommended: – minimum of 3 sessions per week.
*Equipment required – Kickboard, Flippers, Pull Buoy, Paddles & Snorkel.
TRANSITION TO SILVER SQUAD IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE COACHES – Swimmers must show an increased level of commitment in working towards their set goals and have a willingness to compete or be already competing at State level.

SILVER SQUAD
Silver Squad is designed for the serious athlete wanting to take their swimming to the next level, with the swim sessions lasting from 1.5 to 2 hours. In Silver we focus on encouraging a lifelong love and appreciation of swimming as we introduce the swimmers to a more rigorous training regime, preparing them for competition at a National level. Squad sessions at Silver Level maintain an emphasis on stroke proficiency while incorporating more intense training to enhance their endurance thresholds and racing skills. We encourage dry land training sessions, as they are also a key factor at this level. The aim for Silver swimmers is to continue to develop their competition skills, create good training habits and disciplines that will give the athlete the greatest chance of longevity and success in their chosen strokes.
Recommended: – minimum of 4-5 sessions per week.
*Equipment required – Kickboard, Flippers, Pull Buoy, Paddles & Snorkel.
